Digital Capture for Fellow Artists

As a multimedia artist with a background in filmmaking and photography I am excited to offer digital capture services to other artists in NYC. At a reduced rate I’d love to help you capture/digitize your work. I avoid editing and I don’t provide lighting. This means I’ll be using natural/house lighting and handing off RAW files for you to color correct and edit yourself. I am not competing with photo businesses who make a living off this work. This is to support fellow artists who cannot afford these professional services. Whether it’s for your archive, for social media, for your website - I am happy to help in whatever way I can.

Some technical info on what I can provide:

40MP raw images taken with a Fujifilm X-H2. This camera is currently being used in galleries in NYC to capture works for archival, press releases and social media.

160MP pixel-shift raw images for static artworks. This is best for archival.

Static position video capture of works in HD, 4K or 8K resolution.

I shoot all my images using Fujifilm prime lenses to limit distortion. This includes the Fuji XF 23mm, 35mm, and 50mm. All have an f/2 maximum aperture.

360-degree still images and video (up to 8K) using the Insta360 X4. This is particularly helpful in capturing immersive works, installations, interventions, public spaces, etc. Also useful for capturing an entire gallery or studio space. If properly embedded, these 360-degree videos and photos can be rotated by the viewer.

Vibey digicam images of your work in the gallery or studio. I use a Canon PowerShot G5 X point-and-shoot camera with a built-in flash. It delivers a retro-digital aesthetic great for social media, press releases, your website, etc.

Some technical requirements for your editing:

For the 40MP RAW image files I recommend (at minimum) that you have an M1 series Mac/Macbook/iMac/iPad to handle your edits. While you can use Apple’s Photos App, I generally recommend something more professional like Adobe’s Photoshop and/or Lightroom. I have edited these 40MP RAW files on my iPhone 12 Pro (by necessity, while travelling). It’s doable... but not ideal.

For editing 4K video I recommend the same minimum specifications (M1 or later), but note that your editing/rendering times will vary based on several specifications. For example, if editing off of an external harddrive, the drive speed will dramatically impact your overall editing speed. For context, I recently edited a 10-minute long project, in 4K, with 2 tracks of sounds, and 6 video layers... some renders took over 2 hours using Adobe Premiere on a MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro chip.
